Joseph Leopold Eichler started building homes in the late 1940s. They're a popular favorite in Walnut Creek (San Miguel), Concord (Rancho del Diablo), Castro Valley (Greenridge), and Oakland Hills (Sequoyah Hills). Most of my clients go 50/50 in their love/hate for an Eichler Home. There are about 11,000 of his single family homes in NoCal.
Known for blurring the lines between the indoors and outdoors, yet keeping their privacy. Most are single story, have flat top roofs, high fences, a lot of shelves for books and welcome natural light into every room. If I lived in one of these unique tract style, single family homes, I'd open up the traditional galley kitchen for entertaining and watch my garden grow from my air conditioned living room :)
